We love our dogs. With over 14,000 years of coevolution it’s no wonder we get each other. The “pack” has had a strategic alliance with the “family” for survival through generations worldwide. A human and dog collaboration linked to our shared DNA. Yes, you have more in common with your dog than you may realize. X chromosome 6, the inspiration for the MotoDog logo, is believed by some geneticists to be responsible for that tail wagging, face-licking, hypersocial behavior we love about our dogs. Their friendliness and desire to seek human direction is what lead to canid domestication. Successful training is scientifically grounded in this understanding and the path to better communication between you and your dog.

Our head trainer Jill recognized this age-old bond when she was just a kid. As a young entrepreneur, she started a dog walking and dog sitting business in her neighborhood. Didn’t matter whether they were big or small breeds, Jill was confident she could get the job done. Ever since then, she has been training and working with dogs of varying breeds and temperaments throughout her career.

For the past 20 years, Jill has been involved in competitive dog sports. Her dog Strummer, named after the great lead singer of the Clash, was nationally ranked 2nd in AKC Agility for the boxer breed, winning 3 MACH (Master of Agility Championship) titles in his career. She traveled and competed in the sport all over the United States including such prestigious events as the Westminster Agility Championships in NYC.

In recent years, Jill has been competing in working dog events with her boxer Moto, who she raised and trained from a puppy. Moto earned his ZTP (breed survey) title and 2nd place V-rating at Working Boxer Nationals, then went on to get his IPO3 and IGP3. Jill and Moto have won multiple 1st place finishes in the grueling VT Green Mountain Iron Dog race held by the Vermont Police Canine Association. You may have even seen them on A&E’s “America’s Top Dog” where Moto showed the world just how much fun owning a boxer can be.

The two newest members of the MotoDog family are Evo and Koa, both Belgian Malinois. Jill has been training Evo from a puppy to compete in IGP. Koa, came to us through circumstance and has become a truly wonderful, balanced dog who works intimately with reactive dogs in our training programs. Both boys are having fun stacking up gold medals in dock diving while they get ready for the American Working Malinois Nationals.

Jill continues to learn and hone her skills, building on her years of disciplined training, through seminars, classes, and the mentorship of some of the best trainers in the world. All of her knowledge and insight has gained her tremendous respect in the dog training community but more importantly bettered her understanding of the unique relationship we have with our dogs.
